Determine your English proficiency level with CEFR and find the right English course!

What are CEFR English Levels?

Whether you’re here to prepare for university, advance your career, or simply improve your everyday English, our English courses are designed to match your skills and goals. We use CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to determine your English level on arrival at school. This framework is the global standard for describing English language proficiency levels. Let's learn more about CEFR.

Degrees of English level proficiency: what are the English levels?

How is English level measured? A placement test determines your CEFR English level.

These degrees of English level proficiency help us place you in the class that best suits your ability in English.

At Access English Language Centre in Toronto, we know that every student learns differently, and that's why we use the internationally recognized CEFR framework combined with a unique, adaptive placement system to ensure you’re in the perfect class for your skills.

How is your English level determined

On arrival at school, we check your grammar, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Unlike many schools, we know students often have different strengths in different skills. That’s why our placement system allows you to be at different levels for different areas.

For example, you might be placed in Level 4 for grammar but Level 6 for speaking. This ensures you get the personalized learning experience you need.
